Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is Saint Cecilia’s Montessori-based Faith Formation program for preschool children (age 3) up through First Grade. Children and catechists meet during the 9:30am Mass. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program operates on a belief that the very young child has been in a relationship with God since birth. Therefore, the work of the catechist is to simply support that relationship as it grows.

Liturgy of the Word is offered during the second and fourth Sundays of the month from October to May. Students are dismissed just prior to the Liturgy of the Word and return for communion. We read the same scriptures as the adults but from a children’s lectionary. The children express their thoughts and ideas with the simple promptings, “What did you hear God telling us today?”
All children attending Mass are welcome to join us.

Sundays October 4, 11, and 18 during Story and Faith presentations
October 4
St. Francis had such a joy in God’s creation that he danced and sang, and talked with all manner of creature! We will sing with Betsy and Mike the wonderful song, “The Canticle of the Sun” and then make a mural. How will you paint the “seas’ mighty storms”, “dance in the forest”, and “the wind that blows through the trees”?
October 11
Have you watched a pretty goldfinch gather seeds for lunch? Seen a long-legged spider scamper up a thread of web? Do you love grumbling thunder or chirring squirrels? Have you felt the breeze in your hair? Start a nature journal about this! Soon you will be noticing more and more! Come get a journal to keep and started drawing or writing today. This is for adults too, so stop by to get your journal!
October 18
What do beetles, cheetahs, foxes, frogs, grasshoppers, moose, skunks, and spiders have in common? They all belong on your “God’s Creatures” poster. Draw a background and add realistic animal stickers. Or just make a poster of your favorite animals to take home. We have 800 stickers so everyone can get creative!
Volunteers Needed! We are hoping some teens and adults will join us to help with the October Kids Creation Series. No artistic skills needed! Just a spirit of fun! Email Anne Neuberger if you can help.
